Art Commissions
Do you like what you see here on my 77 Wolves website but would like these skills and styles applied to a piece or project you have in mind (even if it might not be Wolves)? These commission services are offered to fill that very desire. I look forward to working with you toward helping you realize the vision you see my work as the right fit to bring your vision into the world. Please read on to find out the not very interesting but hopefully reasonably clear outline of the commission process...
IMPORTANT NOTE: All prices listed are per square inch and will not include shipping at this initial engagement stage. To determine square inches for your project multiply the length in inches by the width in inches to get the total square inches. Please put this total square inches number in the Quantity. Payment of this will get the communication and design process started. If we do not arrive at a mutually agreeable way to proceed this will be refunded.
THE COMMISSION PROCESS: The process for commissions is built to help ensure the art is moving where you want it to go while honoring the strengths and approaches of the artist that motivated you to seek a commission here in the first place. The process is also intended to provide information on communication expectations and approval points along the way. Each commission project is unique in the details but here is the basic framework the work will proceed under.
STEP 1: DETERMINE IF CORRECT ARTIST/RESOURCES FIT FOR YOUR PROJECT: At this point the order has been received and you and I talk directly to determine if the desired size, materials, subject, schedule are a good fit for me as an artist and for the resources I have available to work on your project. Sometimes people have something in mind that does not fit the capabilities, studio resources, subject range, or availability of the artist. If any of these are true and cannot be resolved to your satisfaction your full payment is refunded to the method you used to make the payment. Once we have settled on the final size and materials, if any adjustments one way or the other on the price of the work I will let you know. Once the basic details are determined, written up, and signed. and any outstanding amounts (in either direction) are paid the work will continue on to the next step if not otherwise cancelled before here. Payment in full (other than final shipping related charges) is required to proceed further.
STEP 2: MONOCHROME FULL SIZE VINE CHARCOAL WORK: All pieces start here. It will be in pencil rather than vine charcoal if your desired end size is smaller than about 4 inches by 4 inches. There will likely be concept sketches as we work through what you are looking for. The end result of this step is a full size vine charcoal piece that is ready to develop further (or deliver at this stage if this is the option you chose for the final work). Moving further or delivering at this stage (if this is what you want for the final piece) requires your written approval. If this stage does not meet with your approval a full refund will be made to the method you used to make the payment. If you ordered this level of work as your final target shipping charges will be determine and once both the written approval and the shipping charges are received your work will be shipped to the address you specified when determining shipping charges. Regular communication with you throughout this process is maintained so you always know where I am at with your project. Digital Paintings all take place and are completed in this step though the deliverables are different (and negotiated as part of Step 1).
STEP 3: COLOR FULL SIZE CONTE CRAYON WORK: For commissions where conte crayon or ink and gold flakes are your desired final product this is the next stage. Conte crayon is used to add color to the previously approved vine charcoal drawing. There will often be concept sketches and adjustments along the way as we work together to create your desired work. The end result is the same vine charcoal work from the previous stage now in the color(s) you wanted for your final piece. If a gold/ink final product was your desired result then there is another written approval once the color additions work for you. If Conte Crayon is the final result you are looking for in your project then shipping charges will be determined once your written approval is received for the work. Once both the written approval and shipping charges are received I will ship the piece to the address you specified when determining the shipping charges. In the case where approval is not granted after reasonable effort to meet your desires a partial refund will be made to your original method of payment. The refund will be reduced by the price of a completed piece at the previous fully approved Step. Regular communication with you throughout this process is maintained so you always know where I am at with your project.
STEP 4: COLOR FULL SIZE GOLD FLAKE AND INK WORK: For commissions where ink and gold flakes are your desired final product this is the last stage. Acrylic Ink and Gold Flakes are used to add color and real gold to the previously approved conte crayon work. There will often be concept sketches and adjustments along the way as we work together to create your desired work. The end result is on the same vine charcoal and conte crayon work from the previous stages with the gold flakes and ink layered in for your final piece. This usually takes place in iterative stages between the ink and gold flake additions and in communication with you to get it just right. Once both the written approval at the end of this step and shipping charges are received I will ship the piece to the address you specified when determining the shipping charges. In the case where approval is not granted after reasonable effort to meet your desires a partial refund will be made to your original method of payment. The refund will be reduced by the price of a completed piece at the previous fully approved Step. Regular communication with you throughout this process is maintained so you always know where I am at with your project.
A NOTE ON ITERATIONS AND ADJUSTMENTS ALONG THE WAY: I have no hard limits on the number of iterations back and forth we make along the way to end up where you desire. I do reserve the right to call a stop if it gets unreasonable (in my sole judgement) or ends up exceeding the available resources in any other way. Artist initiated cancellations (while rare but they do happen from time to time) can be for any reason. In this case you will receive a full refund regardless of the Step the work is on unless you want delivery of what has been completed to this point. In this case a refund will be given for steps not completed with the Vine Charcoal level being the minimum charge (plus shipping) to deliver in this special case of Artist cancellation combined with your desire to receive the work completed to this point.
A NOTE ON PRINTS AND PRINTABLE ART ALONG THE WAY: If you have looked around on this site at all you might be drawing the conclusion that all of the work progresses through these stages. Digital Paintings are the exception as they are self contained and do not have these material world layers. As such, you can have any of the prints or printable art types I offer for my regular art pieces here on the site and for the prices that are here on the site. For example you could commission a work in gold and ink but have prints or printable art files made at each stage for the same prices as the other work on this site for the 77 Wolves Project Wolves. Many people do choose at least the high resolution printable art files along the way. These additional prints and printable art files are not included in the commission price but can certainly be added at any time. I make the scans as part of my regular work process at each approved point. If you would like these at other points in the work make sure to let me know at the time as I won't be able to reverse the process back to a previous stage and capture the "in between" states that I did not capture at reproduction quality.
Shipping to your location varies widely on commissions and will be determined and paid at the time it is ready to ship. In our early conversations I can certainly estimate what that will be once I have enough information on what you want created for you.
NOTE ON SCREEN COLOR: The colors on your screen are not going to be exact matches to the final print you receive. Computer screens have a wide range of ways to render color. It is not possible to make screen colors consistent across computers world-wide or in the nearly limitless ways this image may be printed.
Enjoy!

Delivery outside the United States of America may result in additional duties, tariffs, fees, taxes, or other additional costs added at your end. These additional destination side fees are the responsibility of the recipient.
